Hawaiian operator Wing Spirit will offer free empty legs to neighboring islands for patients receiving treatment on Oahu, as well as for doctors and medical personnel heading to work at medical facilities on other islands. The Medical Travel Relief Program, or MED-TRIP, will include the use of four brand new HondaJet Elite business jets. Queen Health Systems, Hawaii Pacific Health and Kaiser are coordinating partners for this program.
The program is designed for patients who, due to their health, cannot fly by linear aviation. For this category, Wing Spirit will provide a HondaJet Elite equipped with a medical cabin or a simple plane (HondaJet Elite) for safer, more comfortable and faster transportation. It will also allow doctors to travel to neighboring islands with greater flexibility, given the reduced number of commercial flights between the islands of the archipelago. The estimated cost of the program is about $ 1 million. The Medical Travel Relief Program is fully funded by Wing Spirit, the operator said.
Wing Spirit currently operates four HondaJet Elites, and the operator increased its order to 15 aircraft last year.
