Plant investment totaled $ 24.3 million, bringing total capital expenditure in North Carolina to over $ 245 million
Honda Aircraft has announced the start of work at the newly opened HondaJet Elite business jet wing manufacturing and service plant, located at the company's headquarters at Piedmont Triad International Airport in Greensboro, North Carolina.
New plant with an area of 7600 sq. M. is the latest addition to Honda Aircraft's own 54-hectare manufacturing facility. The company began construction of the new facility at the end of July 2019 and completed construction in September 2020. Investment in the wing plant was $ 24.3 million, bringing the total capital investment in North Carolina to over $ 245 million.
“The HondaJet fenders consist of an outer skin made of machined one-piece aluminum alloy supported by alloy ribs to provide a very smooth surface to reduce aerodynamic drag and a rigid structure. The new production will allow more wings to be assembled at the same time, which will lead to a significant increase in production efficiency, ”the company explains.
“Honda is a mobile technology company, and our newest facility further enhances assembly efficiency. It will also house more parts to support the rapidly growing HondaJet fleet, ”said Michimasa Fujino, President and CEO of Honda Aircraft Company. “Since entering the market five years ago, the HondaJet has received tremendous customer response. This facility will enable us to continue to provide our growing global customer base with the highest levels of support. ”
The new facility includes a hangar for the main wing assembly, a warehouse for storage and distribution of spare parts, a spray booth and office space.
